I am getting very close to breaking ground on my project, but I need some more design advice. I am building in the Pacific NW with an insulated slab, SIPS 6" walls, 12" roof panels, and 50 year comp roofing. I have been researching the hot roof / cold roof subject and I have determined that the cold roof makes a certain amount of sense, BUT... do I really need it? Even though the cost is relatively small compared to the rest of the components, I have kinda used up my budget already.(like 12" instead of 10" roof panels). Also my approved drawings do not call for the extra roof detail so I would still have to approach the county with this change. Is the "telegraphing" issue very commmon? Also If I do go cold roof do I really need a 2" gap as detailed in Joe Lstibureks book? Any real world advice? Thanks.

We live in Wyoming. SIP roof - not a cold roof. 10" panel Up to three feet of snow on it by the end of winter. We have no problems.

Metal does seem to be a better option for a hot roof design but for various reasons I have chosen Composition and now I am worried about that, particularly the telegraphing issue.

I am bringing this back to the top again in the hope that some of you out there have something for me and just forgot to reply.
