BUYERS BE AWARE:
Description of Problem: We purchased a residential building
system , rControl Structurally Insulated Panels [SIP walls] that was to be a
complete package with trust and assistance by architects and engineers referred
by EZ-BUILD SYSTEMS.
This was guaranteed if "too difficult with the HOA or
city" deposit would be refunded. Due to major engineering, plan errors done in
house at EZ Build by their employee,Paul Redden who was later terminated and other referred to designers, and
city code requirements we received approximately only 60% of what we originally
paid for or 1700SqFt vs. originally 3570 SqFt of S.I.P. walls. The truss
company, prepaid to Al Cain, had not responded nor given a delivery date so Al
Cain agreed with our contractor to rebate the cost of truss and unused SIP walls from our contract.
It has been three months since our request for a refund. EZ Build System''s
owner Alan Cain (PRESIDENT) admitted in several emails and phone
conversations he owed us the money.
We will let you know if and when
this company steps up to the plate and honestly performs. |

John, Sorry to hear about the problem. I hope you have a mean attorney! Have you notified the Attorneys General office in your state? How about BBB, Chamber of Commerce, NAHB, Contractors License officials, Building Inspector, local TV station, IRS. State Tax Department. In NC there is a very active, tough Licensing Department and within there is a homeowners fund for people who get taken by unscrupulous contractors (part of our yearly license fees go to the fund). Perhaps the best organization to call is SIPA - just Google SIPA for their phone. Maybe R-Control can intervene. Keep us posted on your progress with this. I am sure someone else on this site can suggest something beneficial. Best regards, richm |

RichM, really appreciate your time and suggestions!
I am willing to be fair. If someone fixes their mistakes it should be stated, if not they will embarrass the entire industry and should be ostracized from the SIP manufacturers and public..
I think SIPs are a great way to go but not enough self-policing of the bad apples is occurring, this bulletin board is definitely a start.
I will be exploring my legal options to see what liabilities a SIP manufactures has when they have repeatedly been warned that a distributor is doing things unprofessional, unethical or illegal.
Thanks,
John

Sorry to hear of your problems.. I sure hope that your circumstance will change for the good, and soon.
I am in the same boat as far as supporting the SIPS Industry, but the bad one's need to be weeded out. Of course, we all make mistakes..it is going to happen. It hurts everyone when individual companies are not responsible for their actions, and or faults, and leave the customer with a pile of garbage.
I am almost ready to launch my new site dealing with my "Thermocore" Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS). It will be WWW.Thermocore.org. and www.Thermocore.INFO. I will be posting movies, Pictures, and hoping to get some great idea's as how to fix my walls, at least to support them. Also, maybe a prospective customer will learn from my experience as well. and choose a more reputable company, that will not rip them off, like a thief.
Good Luck I really hope that both parties end up on good results.
Kevin

John - Sorry to hear about your problems. Try having an attorney write a letter to the company not holding up to the bargain. An officeal "nudge" might be all that's needed. What a company promises is not always on the up and up. Just as complaints against them may not be on the up and up.
An example is an implication that a particular manufacturer has done something wrong. The audience would find it interesting to learn that important details were conveniently left out by the customer. The installation was performed by people with no experience with SIP's. They might have, for example, modify the panels during the installation without even a call to the manufacturers engineer staff to find out what the impact might be. Making changes without the advice and approval of the engineer could result in a unstable structure. Yet the unscrupulous customer will unjustly accuse the company so as to elevate himself above blame and try to force someone else pay for his incompetence. It stains the entire SIP industry because prospective customers read it, and might believe it. Eventually, as in this case, the truth comes out and the customer is revealed as the scoundrel he is.
Good luck with your problem and collecting your refund.
That's my opinion. john |

John- You are right about installers being a major problem if not experienced or qualified.
This is not an issue in my case.
The complaint with the distributor was overcharging and not refunding what was promised and in contract. Just that simple and yes I have started with a letter from a lawyer though that was not my first chioce. The other issue was the panels were not conformed to the shop drawing and the ends were toenailed inward. Causing added work to spread each wall.
No one has honestly step up to remedy this as of today so I would have to say at this time I will not be referring nor working with EZibuild or Rcontrol again. John |

John R-Control is a great panel and is manufactured all over the country. Your issue appears to be with the reseller not the manufacturer. Of course I do not have all the facts but I too have had issues with the reseller you are referring to. I have not had any issues with R-Control. pdk |

pdk The fact you and others have stated similar issues with an rControl rep, "I too have had issues with the reseller you are referring to " , to me states that companies that continue doing business with such unethical reps risk loosing their reputation as well and absolutely should have cut them off don't you think they owed it to the consumer? John
Kevin Sad condition you have there. Was the cause defective or not enough adhesive? John |

John This particular reseller was cut off from R Control. He apparently has not paid the factory for a project some time ago. He is not doing business with this R control plant but may be with others or other sip suppliers. |
