Im doing a 12' wall on footings just sitting on piles next week for my own house. I was wondering if anyone has water proofing detail for that situation. I plan on using the bakor wp200 and a ditra product.

its logix 8" block which probably makes no difference for the question

thanks

Wildblue,

You may want to check on weather or not Kryton will warrant their product with ICF. Our ready mix company pours a lot of concrete and we are Kryton distributors. We pour a lot of conventional foundations with Kryton products. It is my understanding that Kryton will not warrant their product with ICF due to the number of ties and the fact that our brand of ICF has plastic ties and their concern is with the Kryton products sealing around the plastic. If this is erroneous information, please someone correct me because I would love to use KIM in all of my pours.

Astro,

I always like to assess my soil conditons first before I decide on a waterproofing strategy. We build in widely varying soil types from pure sand for as deep as you can dig, to clays, to glacial tills, to sandstone, to pure rock granite and basalt. Each one has it own unique needs for water proofing with pure sand as the easiest to water proof and clay giving us the most concern. I would hire a quality waterproofing contractor with experience in ICF in your area to give you advice with what works in your soil type. Plus if the contractor installs it you should get a warranty.

icfcontractor,

The Kryton website talks about using their products with ICF, specifically Amvic ICF which have polypropylene ties.

I can find nothing that says you should not use Kryton products with ICF.  I would think it would work well to seall all the ties.

Personally I am leaning away from ICF and toward poured in place basement and walls with removable forms for my concrete house for a variety of reasons.  If I was building the house myself I would use ICF.

We have just poured 10'x 8"(works out to 13 1/2 with the styrofoam ) continous basement walls using ICF..What a great way to build a basement...the walls are perfectly true...we used SuperForm ICF... the contractor then used a dampproofing product from Quebec...I believe its available in Illinois as well..its a product called Calthene by Soprema.. SuperForm out of Pincher Creek, Alberta has outpreformed Logic ICF hands down...

Wildblue,

Thanks for the update, I looked on their website and couldn't find a specific warranty with ICF. You may want to check with the company first. I know that we have poured it into several ICF walls but it was only in conjunction with another comprehensive waterproofing system, the belt and suspenders approach.

COLPHENE ICF
The COLPHENE ICF membrane is also made from self-adhesive SBS modified bitumen and polyethylene woven complex. This specialized solution was specifically designed to ensure foundation waterproofing of insulating formwork. Its application does not require a primer but, in some cases, water-based primer ELASTOCOL STICK H2O is recommended
This is the product that we used with our ICF - Superforms....their web site is http://www.soprema.ca
It is a excellent product and used for years in Canada

Is Kryton the same or similar to Penetron?
