New member here from Germany with a question about Neopor panels and sunlight sensetivity. I know regular EPS can not be in direct sunlight for very long but what about Neopor? I am insulating the outside of my house with it and I don't know how quickly I can get it stuccoed, called Putz here. I can not find a direct answer to this question. Thanks, Dorf Dude...

Dorf Dude
Check on BASF website as they are the inventor of Neopor. We use it since the first day of production and found out that it is much more resistant than the white styrofoam. Way back we had to brush the styrofoam when it was to long in the sun. With Neopor you can have it at least for a saison in the sun without negative influence.

Neopor® features at a glance:

Superior insulation performance compared to standard EPS processing: foam plastic
manufacturers save up to 50% of raw materials with no reduction
in insulating performance.

Thinner and lighter Neopor® boards facilitate installation and save logistics cost.

Thinner sheets are ideal for applications where space is limited, for example
in older buildings.

Better thermal conductivity can be achieved with same material input.

The silver-gray colour serves as a differentiator and avoids glaring in direct sunlight.

Neopor® is the most eco-efficient choice among insulating materials.

Hoowood, Thanks for the reply. I have looked at BASF's and found the same info that you put up. I found nothing directly about sunlight. Thanks for information that it will be ok to not cover it up right away. That will make the stress level much lower. Dorf Dude...

Is there any more info/experience with Neopor? I saw an article in popular science about a guy using Kama panels now using Neopor. Cost was stated at $7.04/sq ft and comes in 5% less than stick frame(he was erecting panels himself). What are the advantages of the graphite blended into the EPS?

Dorfdude Neopor has a much better structure than the regular stypropor and i have DIY´s here in northern germany that have not put the PUTZ on for longer than 6 month, for whatever reason. When we build the Putz will be on the walls after we install the triplepan windows, as their is no reason why not to finish the home asap. We also use a putz with color mixed already to save an extra time.

This house for instance has siding outside and Putz inside. It´s a canadian style home with our european materials, past the blower door test with the best results and cut´s down utility costs 80%

It is said that in 6 month time on direc light exposure Neopor will loose 0,5 milimeter. Usually house is finished much quicker.

A shrinkage in less than 0,5 millimeters is not really an issue as we had in the past big problems, when styrofoam was yellow from sweating in the sunlight. Today with Neopor it is almost invisible. DIY´s sometimes need more time, because the do 40% to 60% themselves and save lot´s of money. The point is, with ICF´s they really can do it themselves. A good consulting is all they need and palnning it the right way is important too. We have 95% DIY homeowners and eveybody is proud and happy when they moved in.
