I'm beginning the process of building a home and it seems like geothermal heating/cooling is the way to go. But i have a few questions because I am very new to this. Will the geothermal system be like I am used to with a traditional system as far as what temperature I want my house? For example, will there be issues if it's very hot in the summer and I want my house to be around 72 degrees? Can I specify my temperature like I would with my current HVAC system? Or is it just going to cool or heat but not let me pick how hot or cool the house is? Also, we may want to put a swimming pool in at some time in the future. Will having a geothermal system interfere with this? Is there a particular way I should have them install the system so that this is still an option for us? Thanks for the info in advance.

You most definitely can set the temperature to what you like. Just make sure it's a properly designed system.

With a DX geothermal heat pump, the ground loop footprint can be very small, and you should be able to fit a pool without much problem.

Reserve a space for the pool and do not let anyone violate it.  Allow no one to plant anything below or above this space.  Then when you dig for the pool, there should not be any surprises such as pipes or wires in the pool area.
